WHITE FRAGILITY: Adult Book Study
In the fall of 2018, a group of about 20 Redeemer congregants gathered for 12 consecutive weeks to listen to, discuss, and learn from Scene On Radio's Seeing White podcast series. What grew from that endeavor was a renewed commitment to interrogating and dismantling whiteness and white supremacy in ourselves, our church, our community, and our world. If you missed that study, now's your chance to join us! On Sunday, May 12, 2019, we will move into the next phase of evolution with a book study of Robin DiAngelo's White Fragility. We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month at 9am in The Living Room (next door to Milda's Cafe) for a deep dive into an element of whiteness that proves over and over again to be one of the greatest barriers to becoming agents of effective and long-lasting racial change and justice: white fragility. The study will be co-facilitated by participants along with Richard Webb, RCFL's Director of Equity & Inclusion. If you are new the group, we ask that you listen to the full 14-episode Seeing White podcast and utilize its study guides prior to joining us. |
We also invite you to join us on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at 9am at The Living Room when Richard will lead an orientation and introduction to the group, our mutual expectations and agreements, and our group practices.
In coordination with the book study, we will be doing the Intercultural Development Inventory (IDI) as individuals and as a group in order to map where we are regarding inter-cultural competency and to create development plans going forward. The cost for the individual and group assessments is $50 and includes both an hour-long one-on-one interpretation debrief with Richard and a group analysis as well.
If you need to purchase a book: Email or call Amy in the church office to make arrangements for the group order.
