Property Minister Report for December 2020
Submitted by Stuart Munk, Property Minister
  • Following a suggestion by EnerChange I contacted and lead a walk-through for Bill of Sprung Services, a boiler-only service. They can provide the weekly boiler checks and keep the maintenance log required by the state of Minnesota while also performing the updates the inspector noted during the latest, periodic inspection. During the walk-through Bill adjusted several gauges that had been set at inadequate levels. Our boiler system contains two motors, one in operation and another idle, providing backup. One of the motors requires repair and Bill suggested that it may not require full replacement ($7000) but basic repair. Closer inspection will define which measure is required. He adjusted several gauges that had been set at inadequate levels. As our boiler system has the ability to operate on either gas or oil, Bill also informed me that it is our/my responsibility to check our oil reserves and make arrangements for necessary refill. Once I receive the contract from Sprung Services, and if the proposed costs seem justified, I will present it immediately to the exec council as we currently have no boiler service arranged, in my opinion, a dire situation. Another reminder, EnerChange will help with rebateable services associated with tune-ups and other boiler work.
  • I’ve been in communication with Josh from Ayrwav. He contacted me about using Redeemer’s location and structure for 5G antenna location. RLC would be compensated for the antenna’s location monthly. I had checked on this eventuality during our initial capital campaign ten years ago but, at that time, there were no takers. I am excited by this proposal. I’ll discuss further with Josh and call other churches they’ve utilized for this arrangement.
  • The Glenwood house residents have informed me that uninvited guests seem to be living in the house’s attic. I performed an exterior inspection and couldn’t see any clear entry points for varmints. Called Plunkett’s who performs extermination duty for the church but was astounded by the cost of their proposal so other sources for varmint removal are being sought.

Evangelism and Outreach Ministry report
Rev. Babette Chatman
Worked in collaboration with RCGL staff Traiveon D. and Mali J. and RLC Lonna Fields to strategize, plan and distribute an  alternative to the annual Christmas Store. To be supportive and provide a cheer basket and gift cards to families within the community. The distribution was Saturday, Dec 12, 1-3. 40 families registered. Between the generocity of our Partner congregations (Faith Waconia, Immanuel-Eden Prairie, Mt. Olivet, Edina Community LC, Zion- Buffalo and Christ the King New Brighton) and  RLC members we extended our expectations. We were also able to provide three additional packets of gifts cards for community members who missed registration but expressed need.
Recommend that Outreach Ministry work in close collaboration with Mali J as RCFL Partner engagement director as a way to be united in the mission around partner and community engagement.

Service and Advocacy December Report
Holly De Souza
The Service and Advocacy Committee continues to focus on voting and masking. To assist with the Fair Fight in Georgia for the January 5th Senate RunOff, we were able to write 60 letters targeting voters who need to register and 200 postcards targeting people to get out to early vote. We also provided Redeemer with a few hundred masks as well as 60 masks to community members in need. Overwhelming gratitude to Maggie for generously sharing her mask making gifts.

December EduYouth Ministry Council Report:

  • Thankful for Edina Community Lutheran Church Partnership!
  • Advent Kits:
    • Passed out 36 kits to families on Nov. 29; extra kits were available for guests to pick up from the church entryway and little free library
    • The kits have activities for children and families to engage in from the first Sunday of Advent through Epiphany.
    • Virtual zoom sessions with ECLC Sunday School: 1 more coming up on Dec. 20 at 10:30am
  • Virtual Christmas Pageant - fun collaboration with ECLC, St. Paul’s Lutheran, and Christ the River of Life Lutheran. The scenes have been divided between the various congregations and will be weaved together with music. (Hooray for Anna K & Kelly R’s editing skills.) To be shown as part of Redeemer’s Christmas Eve service -- you’ll definitely want to tune in!
  • Pastor Sharon Kelly led Holy Communion Instruction for children; Recorded so it will be available to share with families along with conversation on zoom in the new year.
  • Pastor Sharon Kelly helped secure some funding in support of a confirmation retreat this spring; more conversation/planning to come!
