It also authorizes tax-deductible contributions to IRAs after age 70 ½ if the IRA owner is still working. If a tax-deductible contribution is made to an IRA after age 70 ½, the amount that may be excluded from income for a later-made QCD may be affected. Please consult your tax advisors for more information about this and other questions regarding IRA QCDs.

Third Sunday of Advent  Readings & Gospel:
Isaiah 61:1-4, 8-11,  Psalm 126,  1 Thessalonians 5:16-24 & John 1:6-8, 19-28

This Sunday we light three candles on the Advent wreath. While our society goes crazy with Christmas preparations and the northern hemisphere grows darker each day, we gather to wait for God to bring us into peace and light. In the gospel reading, John the Baptist calls us to make a pathway for Christ. The poem from Isaiah likens us to a bride or bridegroom dressing for our wedding day.
God of power and might, shine your radiance and come quickly to this weary world. Hear our prayers for everyone in need--

God of preachers and messengers, you have entrusted your church with the work of proclaiming good news. Strengthen the witness of Redeemer with new member Joniqua Ankerfelt as we contribute our prayers and presence in calling our next pastor as you embed your word in every heart. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

God of exiles and wanderers
, you repair what was once destroyed, in being present with the leaders of every nation as they govern by caring for one another,  for people who have been displaced from their homes by fire, flood, earthquake, or storm inHonduras, El Salvador, Haiti, Nepal, Nicaragua, and Sudan. Support the work of Lutheran World Relief, Lutheran Disaster Response, and all disaster relief organizations in their recovery efforts. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

God of the powerful and helpless, you clothe us with strength when our spirits are weak and weary by bestowing your spirit upon this congregation and its communities by empowering us to comfort Ione, Mary, and Sarah, our local and global siblings living with surging COVID-19 and accompanying lockdowns with quarantines, for first responders as well as disaster volunteers, the unsheltered campers at 2nd Ave North and Van White Memorial Blvd, brothers James and Bobbie, Cheryl, Cindy, Linda, Samantha, Shoonie, Edina Community Lutheran Church and the family of Pastor Jeff Sartain . . . Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

God of sinners and saints, you offer joy even in the midst of our grief. We are grateful for the beloved, imperfect people whose lives testified to your radiant love, especially Lucy, martyr of the church,  Nicholas of Myra, Arlene, Bill, John, Kathy and Mary.  Anoint the mourning with the oil of gladness. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Draw near to us, O God, and receive our prayers for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Second Sunday in Advent: Readings & Gospel
Isaiah 40:1-11, Psalm 85:1-2, 8-13, 2 Peter 3:8-15a, & Mark 1:1-8

On the second Sunday of Advent, we light two candles on the wreath and we listen to John the Baptist, preaching, baptizing, and urging us to prepare for the coming of Christ. The first reading from Isaiah is familiar to anyone who knows Handel’s Messiah, and the psalm includes the beloved line, “righteousness and peace have kissed each other.”
God of power and might, comfort your people and come quickly to this weary world. Hear our prayers for everyone in need...

Faithful God, you teach us to wait for you with nurtured faithfulness and patience as we discern and enact your mission in calling our next pastor supported in our doubts and questions. Hear us, O God.Your mercy is great.

Loving and steadfast God, renew the face of creation where it is in need of your healing touch. Where people suffer from discrimination, judgment, and injustice, speak words of truth and comfort through Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Services and the World Health Organization. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Tender God, you know sorrow and joy alike. We pray for families in our congregation and community who are not joyful in this holiday season. Sustain and support people with physical and intellectual disabilities. Accompany disability advocates who work for a world accessible to all Comforter, be a companion to all, tend to the sick , the struggling with depression, and gather all people in your healing embrace especially Ione, and Sarah, and all receiving hospice, our local and global siblings living with surging COVID-19 and accompanying lockdowns with quarantines; to first responders as well as disaster volunteers,  the  grieving Honduran hurricane survivors, the unsheltered campers at 2nd Ave North and Van White Memorial Blvd, brothers James and Bobbie, Cindy, Linda, Samantha, Shoonie, Edina Community Lutheran Church and the family of Pastor Jeff Sartain . . . Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Eternal God, we give thanks for the saints who have prepared your way in the wilderness, made their generous lives an example for all, and taught us to continue their faithful work especially Nicholas of Myra, Arlene, John, Kathy, Mary, and Bill. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Draw near to us, O God, and receive our prayers for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

First Sunday in Advent: Readings & Gospel
Isaiah 64:1-9, Psalm 80:1-7, 17-19, 1 Corinthians 1:3-9 & Mark 13:24-37
This coming Sunday is the first Sunday of Advent. Christ is “advancing” towards us. In the past, God came to us in the life of Jesus. In the present, God comes especially in word and sacrament. In the future, even if there is disaster, God will come to gather us into life. This Sunday we light the first candle on our Advent wreath, and we begin a year-long reading from the Gospel of Mark.

God of power and might, tear open the heavens and come quickly to this weary world. Hear our prayers for everyone in need --

We pray for the ministry we share in Christ’s name with new Redeemer members, the Lutters, Jenny,  Annika and Pastor Paul and as we seek a pastor joining our open hearts to your call for justice, peace, and healing, these needs of the world, as you draw near. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

We pray for your renewing this planet and restoring relationships within devastated habitats, polluted waters, blazing fires, and swelling floods in Central America, Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

For any leaving home because of armed conflict, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Belarus and the Church in the Holy Land,  for those without homes facing seasonal hurricanes, for any unemployed or underemployed, and for any in poverty or facing food insecurity supported by Metropolitan Community Church of Christ. Fill with compassion and just power all who care for others in our neighborhood and around the world by relieving burdens, sustaining bodies, and easing minds by the help of our hands for any in crisis Ione, and Sarah, living in care with Bill and all receiving hospice, our local and global siblings living with surging COVID-19 and accompanying lockdowns with quarantines, for first responders as well as disaster volunteers, the unsheltered campers at 2nd Ave North and Van White Memorial Blvd, brothers James and Bobbie, Cheryl, Cindy, Linda, Kathy, Samantha, Shoonie, Edina Community Lutheran Church and the family of Pastor Jeff Sartain . . . Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

We give thanks for the lives and witness of those who died Arlene, John, and Mary as well as any waiting for justice, peace, or healing, those whose names we know and those whose names are known only to you. Sustain all who still yearn for the completion of your redeeming work. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Draw near to us, O God, and receive our prayers for the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Lectionary 33 / Advent Project Readings & Gospel:
Amos 5:18-24, Psalm 70, 1 Thes. 4:13-18, & Matthew 25:14-30
Some people do a good job of using their talents to benefit others, but some persons, never employ their talents to the full. Come to worship this coming Sunday. Hear the parable about talents; receive God’s blessing; and at the table be strengthened to become an ever more creative and faithful servant in God’s kingdom.

Intercessor:
Longing for Christ’s reign to come among us, we pray for the outpouring of God’s power on the church, the world, and all in need...

Lord of the church, by the fire of your Holy Spirit, unify us across ministries, congregations, and denominations  especially as we call a pastor, and refine us to participate in your activity throughout the world. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Lord of creation, we stand in awe at the works of your hands and praise you for the beauty of nature especially Theodore Wirth Park as an example of the blessed earth for your glory and restore its integrity where exploitation has caused ruin. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Lord of the nations, sound forth your justice in the ears of all leaders, increasing their concern for those who are most vulnerable especially the people of Nicaragua, and Honduras, Belize, Guatemala and El Salvador in the aftermath of Hurricane
Eta, the people of Ethiopia, Lebanon, Belarus and the Church in the Holy Land, for siblings across the US who are experiencing violent unrest, by  cooperating for international trade agreements and ending human rights abuses. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Lord of all in need, search out all who cry to you in distress Ione, and Sarah, living in care with Bill and all receiving hospice, our local and global siblings living with surging COVID-19 and accompanying lockdowns with quarantines, for first responders as well as disaster volunteers, the unsheltered campers at 2nd Ave North and Van White Memorial Blvd, brothers James and Bobbie, Cindy, Linda, Kristen, MarySue, Shoonie, Edina Community Lutheran Church and the family of Pastor Jeff Sartain … Scatter the heavy clouds of depression, chronic illness, unemployment, and loneliness with your radiant light. Send us as encouragement and signs of your healing. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Lord of the stranger, stir up holy restlessness in us to extend love to those at the margins. Release our desire for control and open us to learn from the perspectives of others as we interview pastors for our call. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Lord of the living and the dead, we give you thanks for all the saints at rest from their labors, Arlene and Mary. Rouse us to live by their example, that saints yet to come may also know your love. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Receive our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, until that day when you gather all creation around your throne where you will reign forever and ever. Amen.

All Saints Sunday | Readings & Gospel: Revelation 7:9-17, Psalm 34:1-10, 22, 1 John 3:1-3, & Matthew 5:1-12
On All Saints Day, we thank God for all the baptized, both the famous and the forgotten, both those who lived in the past and those around us today. Come to worship, to gather at Jesus’ feet and to receive his words of blessing.

Longing for Christ’s reign to come among us, we pray for the outpouring of God’s power on the church, the world, and all with needs...

Lord of all the saints, we praise you for evangelists and martyrs who inspired us with their courageous sacrifices to witness to your gospel across time and space carrying our faith to new people and places around us. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Lord of every nation, guide this country—red states and blue states, rural voters and urban voters, young and old—as we share in another national election seeking our common needs especially where lives have been disrupted by protests in Philadelphia, North American Wildfire Season, Atlantic Hurricane Season, Sudan and Monsoon flooding, Venezuelan Humanitarian and Refugee Crisis and any unnamed natural disasters. Renew us by the blessed work of naturalists, conservationists, and park rangers training  our attention to the wonders of the world you have made.  Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Lord of every blessing, your Son’s blessing came to those living with poverty, grief, hunger, thirst,  persecution; accompany any in new and unfamiliar places Ione, and Sarah, living in care with Bill and all receiving hospice, our local and global siblings living with COVID-19 and accompanying lockdowns with quarantines, for first responders as well as disaster volunteers. We raise any needing an invitation to community, the campers at 2nd Ave North and Van White Memorial Blvd, brothers James and Bobbie, Bud, Cindy, Linda, Kristen, MarySue, Shoonie, Edina Community Lutheran Church and the family of Pastor Sartain, the recently moved to start their first year of college, a new job, or a missionary position in another land  and our hope for a new pastor. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Lord of every time, countless are the multitudes you have called by name and gathered to yourself. Comfort us as we grieve Delores Runsewe, a Redeemer member, with Mary Olson Cornils Baich, Mark, and all who died this year. In faith, may we join with them in ceaseless praise. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Receive our prayers
in the name of Jesus Christ our Savior, until that day when you gather all creation around your throne where you will reign forever and ever. Amen.

Reformation Sunday | Readings & Gospel:
Jeremiah 31:31-34, Psalm 46, Romans 3:19-28, & John 8:31-36

Over the centuries, Lutherans have kept a special day to thank God for the freedom that the word of God grants to believers and to pray that with the help of God’s Spirit, the church will be continually reformed and renewed. You are invited to worship with us on this Reformation Sunday, in praise and petition to God for the ongoing health of the church.
With confidence in God’s grace and mercy, let us pray for the church, the world, and all those in need...

Renew and inspire the church in the freedom of the gospel, O God. Where the church is in error, reform it. Where the church speaks your truth, strengthen it. Where the church is divided, unify it. Ignite all houses of faith with these Christ the King, Edina Community, Faith Evangelical, Immanuel, Redeemer,  St. Barnabas, Salem, Westwood, and Zion in the working of the Holy Spirit. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

As the earth changes, as mountains shake and the waters roar, may we care for this planet as a holy habitation for all living things, sustaining all peoples and lands recovering from the North American Wildfire Season, Atlantic Hurricane Season, Sudan and Monsoon flooding, Venezuelan Humanitarian and Refugee Crisis and from natural disasters of any kind . . . Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Guide areas of the world divided or traumatized by conflict Armenia Armenia-Azerbaijan, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Church of the Holy Land, Nigeria, U.S. civil unrest . . . Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Release those living in bondage to debts, chronic pain, or addiction. Grant healing touch to those who are ill and recovering, brothers James and Bobbie, Bud, Cindy, Linda, Kristen, Mark, MarySue, Shoonie, Edina Community Lutheran Church and the family of Pastor Sartain,  . . .  Marylou, Ione, and Sarah,  living in care with Bill and all receiving hospice, our local and global siblings living with COVID-19 and accompanying lockdowns with quarantines, for first responders as well as disaster volunteers. Free all from slavery and human trafficking, and protect all in harm’s way. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

In this family of faith we give thanks for courageous voices that have remained firm in their commitment to the one who frees us from sin and death. Centered in your grace, unify us in the hope of the gospel as we call a pastor. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Even in death, you free us and give us a place in your house. We give thanks for our ancestors who have shown us truth and freedom, especially Martin Luther and any working for the renewal of the church. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Listen as we call on you, O God, and enfold in your loving arms all for whom we pray, in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

17th Sunday after Pentecost | Readings & Gospel:
Ezekiel 18:1-4, 25-32, Psalm 25:1-9, Philippians 2:1-13, & Matthew 21:23-32
Drawn together in the compassion of God, we pray for the church, the world, and all those in need---

In all the world, where the church is powerful and where it struggles, shape us with humility and obedience so that your love and the unifying mind of Christ may be at work in us.. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Turn the nations toward life by mending and redeeming places that are polluted and damaged. Where our ways are unfair, give us new hearts and new spirits for changing our minds and trusting your authority where sin permeates our cultures and institutions in Belarus,  Ethiopia, Lebanon, Japan,  and the Church in the Holy Land, for siblings across the US especially in the fire damaged Western states and Louisville, KY. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Our lives are yours, O God. Defend the lives and welfare of children who are abused or neglected, hungry or exploited, bullied or lonely,  Relieve the suffering of all in body, mind, and spirit: the survivors of the migrant fire in Lesbos, the family of Breonna Taylor, Claudia, Cindy, Linda, MarySue, Robin, Shoonie, Tatiana, our local and global siblings living with COVID-19 and quarantines, for the first responders, disaster volunteers, for; Marylou, Ione, and Sarah living in care, for Bill and all receiving hospice and any needing our embrace. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Turn Redeemer Lutheran away from our own interests toward the interests of others as they seek their called pastor filling them with your compassion and sympathy as you bless ministries of care in our community especially Redeemer Center for Life, the feeding ministry at Metropolitan church of Christ, Harrison Neighborhood Association; make us into signs of your mercy and justice for our neighbors. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Thank you for those who have gone into the kingdom ahead of us confessing as witnesses: Jesus Christ as Lord in life and in death -- Mark, tax collectors and prostitutes, likely and unlikely, obedient and slow to learn. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

All these things and whatever else you see that we need, we entrust to your mercy; through Christ our Lord. Amen
