Our Journeys of Faith: Soup Supper and Worship
This Wednesday we continue our mid-week lenten service at Redeemer. The meal begins at 6:00pm but arrive when you can get there. At 7:00pm - we will sing, pray and participate in table conversation. This year we are hearing from voices within Redeemer about their faith journeys. In our table conversations we’ll reflect on our own spiritual lives; the struggles, questions and experiences that have led us to where we are now. We hope you’ll bring the honest questions and longings that are on your heart. We also hope that you will invite friends and family for these great gatherings. You can spread the word by inviting friends to the FB Event.  We hope to see you there!

“Northside Celebration” Concert: This Weekend
Come and hear a wonderful collaborative concert including singers from Redeemer.  The “Northside Celebration” Concert is a massive collaborative gospel featuring the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Sanford Moore (Missionary Baptist Church/Penumbra Theater), and the Capri Theater. "Northside Celebration” takes place this Saturday and Sunday, March 18-19th at 4:00pm.  Tickets are FREE, but must be reserved.  Find out more information here!

2017 Holy Hoops League
Each spring, Redeemer participates in the Holy Hoops Basketball league with other area churches. The games take place each Sunday at Christ the King Lutheran Church in New Brighton (1900 7th St NW, New Brighton, MN 55112). This Sunday is the last regular season game.  Come support the Redeemer basketball players!  For more information, visit the Holy Hoops website here.

H-Cubed is a monthly family-friendly open mic community space where we share art, poetry, music, and conversation around systemic issues.  Our next H-cubed event will be Friday  March 31st, beginning at 7:30pm.  Find out more information and get connected here.  All are welcome!

Amy Brandt, Redeemer’s Stewardship Councilperson says, “Redeemer members should use Action Teams because they are easy and fun to utilize! They can be used for a variety of activities, and are very easy to apply for.” Thrivent Action Team volunteers receive $250 to use for a service, education, or fundraising event. Currently, we are looking for Action Teams to provide meals for and eat with our youth; contact Mary, as below, for times and dates. If you are not a Thrivent Member, we can help you can become an Associate Member who can apply for an Action Team.  Please contact Mary Simonson Clark at development@redeemercenter.org or 612.636.5104.

Would you like to find a way to support the youth program?  Are you interested in providing a meal?  We are looking for people who are willing to provide or cook a meal for our youth as the come to Redeemer.

Mid-Week Lenten Meal and Service

Singers Needed for “Northside Celebration”
Redeemer singers were recently asked to sing in a massive gospel choir with the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, Sanford Moore (Missionary Baptist Church/Penumbra Theater), and the Capri Theater. The celebration is called "Northside Celebration," and will take place IN NORTH MINNEAPOLIS on March 18-19!!! This is a great opportunity for Redeemer to join other northsiders to celebrate music and community. We would like to get as many people from Redeemer to join this as possible.  Please contact Kent at kgoodroad@gmail.com for more information and for a rehearsal schedule!

March ‘Race and’ Forum                        
Our next ‘Race and' forum will be held on March 14th at Redeemer.  The event will be focused on Race and Healthcare, featuring Dr. Julia Joseph-DiCaprio.  The ongoing series is a partnership between Edina Community Lutheran Church, Westwood Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church.  See the Facebook event here!

Planning an event at the church? Need to get an Announcement out?
It’s simple! Here are some tips...If you are planning an event or a meeting at the church, talk with Babette or Sarah in the office to check if there is availability.  If given approval and if the space is available, give the details of your event to Sarah so that she can make sure the event gets on the bulletin and website calendars.  If you want to spread the word about something, send Sarah an email (admin@redeemermpls.org) or call her with your announcement and she will include it for you in the weekly email!  Make sure to include details like date, time and location!

Stewardship Kick-Off Sunday: THIS SUNDAY
Redeemer Lutheran Church’s mission is to serve as a beacon of hope in the Harrison neighborhood of North Minneapolis. How can you use your gifts to help Redeemer keep shining bright in the community?  Join us for a Stewardship Kick-off Worship Service and Community Meal Sunday, February 19th where we can connect as a community to grow our many ministries: Worship, Advocacy, Financial Support, Youth, Property, Outreach/Communications, Fellowship and more. Let’s imagine how we can support one another to shine our brightest in the Harrison community!

H-Cubed: "Historical Identity: Living Black History"
H-Cubed is a monthly family-friendly open mic community space where we share art, poetry, music, and conversation around systemic issues.  Our next H-cubed event will be on February 24th, beginning at 7:30pm.  We’ll be celebrating Black History Month, hope to see you there!  All are welcome!

No experience is necessary and there is no need to prepare anything for the audition, all are welcome! Open Call Auditions will take place on Tuesday, February 14th and Wednesday, February 15th from 6:00-9:00pm. Callbacks will be on Thursday, February 16th from 6:00-9:00pm. All of the events will be held at North Community High School Auditorium (Door 18, Irving Side).   They are also seeking volunteers for lights, sets, costumes, pit band, box office, etc. Contact if interested in helping out.  For more information contact: northcommunitytheater@gmail.com.

2016 Giving Statements have been distributed. Electronic copies were sent out between January 24-30. Paper copies were mailed on January 30. If you have questions about your statement, or didn’t receive one, contact Laurie at bookkeeper@redeemermpls.org or by phone at the church office. If you got a paper copy and are willing to receive your statement electronically, send an email to Laurie so she has your info for next time!

Confirmation & Baby Shower Celebration
​ THIS SUNDAY!

We will be celebrating 3 confirmations and 4 new Redeemer babies this Sunday. Emander, Keke & Nko will be confirmed this Sunday during the worship service. We will be honoring them at fellowship after the service, along with showering the new Redeemer babies and parents. Below is the poster with names and sizes of the babies. ​

Free Performance of Fiddler on the Roof-THIS Sunday
Redeemer will be hosting a production of Fiddler on the Roof on Sunday, February 5th at 2:00PM. The production will be held in the Redeemer Fellowship Hall!  
Farrington Llewellyn & Katherine Parent will host a conversation post-show on the play's themes of cultural displacement and tradition related to our context in North Minneapolis.

Barbara Smith Funeral Service, Monday, February 6th
We will be celebrating the life of long-term Redeemer member, Barbara Smith, on Monday, February 6th at 11:00a.m. The service will be held at Redeemer, with a luncheon to follow.

February Women’s Gathering, February 8th
Redeemer Women’s Ministry will be hosting a tea and scones women’s gathering in the Redeemer Fellowship Hall.  All those who identify as women are welcome to come!  We’ll be making Valentine bags to hand out to our neighbors.  Please bring a box of granola bars if you are able to contribute to the bags!

Tyrik Update
Tyrik reports that, “I’m doing fine.  Just got done with half of my chemo on Tuesday and Onocologists are saying that I may be done with this quicker than sooner.” He wanted to give up everyone an update! Send prayers towards Tyrik and his family for a quick recovery.

Annual Meeting This Sunday
Redeemer’s Annual Meeting is this Sunday in the Fellowship Hall following worship.  We’ll hear reports and look back on the year that we have had together in service and ministry.  Following the meeting we will share in a soup meal.  
We will be setting up on Saturday, January 28th at 12:00p.m. and would love your help!

Fiddler on the Roof

If your name is not on the list and you would like a set of envelopes, there will be several unassigned boxes available - please just write your name on the list next to the number of the box you take. Which came first, the Chicken or the Action Team?
The Action Team came first. It purchased the hot, delicious chicken for the MLK Day meal with the $250 it received from Thrivent. We are grateful for so many of you who have made the work of Redeemer and Redeemer Center for Life possible this year through generous volunteering, support, and financial giving.  Together, we are a stronger and more transformational place of welcome and ministry.  As we celebrate Christmas, we celebrate that God has come to be with us and we wish you great peace and joy in this time.  


Remember Redeemer in your Year End Giving
If you’d still like to make a year-end gift to Redeemer Center for Life or to Redeemer Lutheran Church, it is not too late!  Support Redeemer Lutheran Church by making an online gift here or in the Sunday collection.  Redeemer Center for Life has raised over $14,000 since kicking off our year-end matching-funds drive in November. H-Cubed is Coming Up!
Don’t miss the next H-Cubed open-mic event on December 30th, 6:00-9:00pm in the Living Room (1718 Glenwood Ave).  H-Cubed is an open mic community space for healing.  The theme of the evening will be “New Year’s Cheer: Be the Gift”.  All are welcome: check out the FB Event and let us know if you can come!

Winter Clothes Drive for Kids
Redeemer is helping collect warm winter gear for students at a local K-5 school, Bryn Mawr Elementary. Drop off new and gently used winter gloves, boots and snow pants at the Redeemer office or at Venture North anytime between now and Jan. 15.

Help Redeemer Fuel Standing Rock
Since November, Redeemer has been hosting an effort to process wood for Standing Rock. If you’re interested in helping to cut and/or load firewood, email erica@redeemercenter.org. We’re also looking for a few large tarps that can be used to cover the firewood. Tarps can be dropped off in the main office. “Race and…” Forum: January 10th at 7:00pm
Join us for the third conversation within a 12-month town hall series on race.  The series is a partnership between Westwood Lutheran Church, Redeemer Lutheran Church and Edina Community Lutheran Church.

Action Teams Receive $250 Seed Money
A Thrivent Action Team provides $250 “seed money” for Thrivent members to use in a service, fundraising, or education project. For more information about Action Teams, go to www.thrivent.com and click on Making a Difference. Applications must be made 21 days before the event. Redeemer Christmas Store TOMORROW!
On Saturday, December 10th from 9:15am-12:00pm, Children aged 5-12 years old are invited to experience the joys of giving this holiday season. Children will be able to purchase up to 4 gifts at the price of 25 cents per gift (a maximum of $1 can be spent.) There will also be entertainment for the entire family! We will have cookie decorating, live music, dancing, singing, and maybe even an appearance by Santa.
Invite all of your family and friends to join in this beautiful event!
 
A Lot Happening This Sunday!
This Sunday, December 11th, we have a lot of exciting events happening!
During the worship service, the Sunday school class and Nursery will be presenting the annual Christmas pageant and we will be celebrating the baptism of Elijah, Josiah, Isaiah, and Shanyiah (the grandchildren of Paul Palacio).
After the service, the annual budget meeting will take place in the Sanctuary. The 2017 budget will need to be approved by the end of the meeting.
 
Pastor Kelly to Receive Steinbruck Award
Finally, following worship and the budget meeting, Pastor Kelly will be receiving the inaugural John Steinbruck Leadership Award for distinguished service in social ministry.  Bianca Valdez, who works at the Steinbruck Center, will travel from Washington D.C. to present the award. There will be a potluck celebration to follow the presentation of the award.
Please bring a side dish or salad to share!
 
Redeemer After School Program Giving Tree
The RAP kids, with help from Katherine, have made a giving tree!  Please visit the givingtree in the entry area of the church and explore the donations and gifts that RAP needs.  If you'd like to donate an item, just take a leaf home, purchase the item and bring the item back to church!  Questions...Talk to Pastoral Intern, Alissa.

​Christmas decor day and purchasing poinsettias
The order form for Christmas Poinsettias are available at the church through Sunday, December 4th, when the orders are due. Each poinsettia will be $8.00, checks or cash can be placed in the offering plate with “Christmas Poinsettia” indicated on the envelope. Poinsettias will be available for pick up on Sun, Jan. 1st and Sun, Jan. 8th. Contact Sarah in the office for questions (admin@redeemermpls.org or 612-374-4139).

ADVENTure: THIS SUNDAY!
Join with the Northside Lutheran Churches for ADVENTure, this Sunday, December 4th from 3:00-5:00pm at River of Life Lutheran Church.  The celebration will be a chance for members from Redeemer, Salem, Christ English and River of Life Lutheran Churches to get to know one another better and to celebrate the Advent season together!  There will be live entertainment from our congregations, Christmas caroling, games for kids and free food!  Tell us that you can come by RSVPing on the FB Event!

Redeemer Christmas Pageant
The Sunday school class and Nursery will be presenting the annual Christmas pageant during service on Sunday, December 11th. This is an opportunity for Redeemer's youngest members to share the meaning of the season through songs and story. If you know a young person who is interested in performing, if you are a parent of a Redeemer child, or if you just enjoy working with our beautiful young people, please consider volunteering to help us prepare for the performance. Rehearsals for the pageant will take place during Sunday school and nursery November 27th and December 4, with a final rehearsal on Saturday, December 10, after the Christmas store. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Helen Collins at helen@redeemercenter.org.

Congregation Budget Meeting December 11, immediately following worship
