A little boy attended Church with his Grandfather one Sunday. Grandpa's church had beautiful stained-glass windows. Grandpa told his grandson that windows contained pictures of Saint Matthew, Saint Mark, Saint Luke, Saint John, Saint Paul, and whole lot of other saints. When he got home, the boy told Mom and Dad all about it. Dad, wanting to be funny and curious about what his son had learned, asked, "What is a saint?" The boy thought for a minute and then replied, "A saint is a somebody the light shines through." By the time this newsletter arrives we will have celebrated All Saints Sunday. On All Saints is the day for many congregations remember people who have died and celebrate the new life they share in heaven. We are all made saints when we were bathed in God’s hope and promise at our baptism. When we say, “all saints”, we really do mean “all”. The other point we emphasize in All Saints is our witness as people of God. When provide support to people in their time of need, teach our children to pray and share our talents we display what a saint looks like. Thank you, saints of God, for allowing the light of Christ to shine through you. I would describe Redeemer as a congregation where we like to celebrate. It’s like it is in our DNA. When we Pass the Peace, it turns into a celebration. Last Sunday Redeemer hosted the annual Soul Food Sunday and that too turned into a celebration. In fact, we recently celebrated another wonderful Soul Food Sunday. At Redeemer we also celebrate diversity. We arrive at Redeemer from different church backgrounds and experiences. Our membership includes people who are new to the church, some were injured by the church, and others have known the church their entire life. As a diverse people a word like “stewardship” requires some explanation if it is lead to celebration. My hope is stewardship might become one of the many ways we celebrate at Redeemer. We want to be a congregation where we celebrate stewardship. Let’s get Jiggy with Stewardship. Sunday, November 11th is Stewardship Sunday and we want you to get “Jiggy with it.” Minister of Stewardship, Linnae Nelson-Seys is planning the day. Our pastors and Music Worship Team will lead worship downstairs around tables. The theme for the day, yes you guessed it, will be STEWARDSHIP. Worship will include the opportunity to fill out a stewardship pledge stating your financial and volunteer commitment for the coming year. St Each completed stewardship card helps the church council build the budget budgeting process. In December the church council will present a 2019 budget for your approval. We look forward to you joining everyone on Stewardship Sunday. Keep allowing God’s light to shine through you and let’s keep celebrating. ~ Pastor Kelly |
