CONNECTING with PASTOR JEN //  It was good news to have Pastor Jen join last Sunday. Are you wondering how you might connect? Here are a few options for connecting:
    > Email: As Pastor Jen is getting on-boarded at Redeemer we wanted you to know the email has been a little quirky. Pastor@redeemermpls.org is the email she will be using, please try sending twice if you get a bounce back response and check your spam folders. We suggest adding this email to your contact list so it will be recognized.
    > Office Hours: Currently you'll find Pastor Jen on site at Redeemer on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Please know she is open to setting up other times to meet with you and engage with folks as able. Please be aware Pastor Jen is the transportation person in her family for her kids and during school hours will be dropping off (8:45-9:30 am) and picking up (3:50-4:30 pm). Thanks to her husband, Mike they can adjust and will do so as needed, as their family walks with Redeemer.

SPAM EMAIL REMINDER // If you receive an email from Pastor Jen Collins or a redeemer staff member please make sure you check that it is from an "@redeemermpls.org" email address. If it is NOT then do not reply and know it's most likely spam or phishing emails trying to scam you for personal information. Know we would not ask for personal or financial information over an email. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

OFFICE ADMINISTRATIVE HOURS // Amy Koopman is serving as interim administrator. She is in the offices on Friday mornings to prepare bulletins, update the website, and send weekly announcements. If you have announcements or concerns to share with our community, please send them to Amy at admin@redeemermpls.org by Thursday night!

PRAYER for the BRANCH FAMILY // We lift up the Branch family (Lonnie and Doris, Cheryl, and Patricia) and grieve with them as they mourn the sudden and unexpected passing of their son and brother in Atlanta.

COVID-19 GUIDANCE UPDATE // Redeemer’s Council met Tuesday, August 20, 2022 and moved to update the mask policy to “Mask Wearing is Welcomed” for worship services and all other events or meetings that occur at the church. Redeemer remains committed to the health and well-being of our community, and this update affirms and encourages individuals to continue to make good personal choices about COVID-19. As you make decisions to keep yourself and others healthy, the Redeemer Council and Pastor Jen strongly encourage the following:
    > If you are eligible for vaccination, ensure that you are up-to-date on booster shots.
    > Wear a high-quality mask. As we know that SARS-COV-2 spreads through aerosols. N95 or KN95 masks prevent 95% of particles from entering the airway, and Redeemer will strive to offer these masks for both adults and children as needed, especially as we move indoors.
    > Pay attention to local data on COVID-19 spread. You may want to track wastewater data to better understand the prevalence of COVID-19 in the metro area.
    > Use rapid tests, particularly before gathering with others, to help gauge your health.
    > If you are sick or have been exposed to someone with COVID, please stay home and join online instead of in person.

However you choose to participate in our congregational life, we will continue to do this together! We hope that you know that you are loved, welcomed and valued here at Redeemer. We look forward to moving forward and navigating life together during these next few seasons here at Redeemer. Please reach out to council or Pastor Jen Collins with any questions, concerns or if you need help finding the resources you need to remain healthy and safe.

Trusting in God’s extraordinary love, let us come near to the Holy One in prayer.

For the church and its leaders, we pray. Uphold all deacons, pastors, and bishops who serve and teach your people. Awaken in your church a spirit of invitation that reaches ever outward. God in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For the well-being of creation and its inhabitants, we pray. Stir in us reverent awe for the beauty of the natural world, for oceans and lakes, rivers and streams, forests and deserts. God in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For the nations and peoples of the world, we pray. Sustain the efforts of those who pursue justice and equity for all. Defend and accompany all immigrants and refugees and all who are persecuted for their ethnic origin or religious beliefs. God in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For all who suffer in body, mind, or spirit, we pray. Be present with those who live in isolation or fear, especially those who are incarcerated or detained. Comfort all who are sick or grieving, especially The Branch Family, grieving the death of their son and brother; Jane Friendshuh, recovering from surgery; Mary Lou Williams, recovering from surgery; Claudia Runnels, recovering from surgery; Carlos Garces, recovering from neck surgery; Bill Viebahn, member, with late stage lung cancer; Mike Murray, in cancer treatment; and Mary Sue Barber, daughter of Shelby Andress, whose cancer has returned and is worsening. We pray For those who suffer from long COVID, and other effects of the pandemic For those suffering from mental illness For caregivers everywhere in their care for the sick and mentally ill. For the imprisoned who long for hope. God in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For Redeemer, its ministers, and its ministries, we pray. Prepare children, teachers, and youth ministry directors for a new year of learning. Embolden our witness to invite others to the table. God in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

For all the saints who confessed God’s name, especially Augustine, Bishop of Hippo, and Moses the Black, we give thanks. May we cling to the promise of our risen Savior, Jesus Christ, the same yesterday, today, and forever. God in your mercy, Hear our prayer.

Receive the prayers of your people, merciful God, and hold us forever in your steadfast love; through Jesus Christ, our holy Wisdom.

Amen.

Jeremiah 23:23-29
Psalm 82
Hebrews 11:29 - 12:2

Gospel:
Luke 12:39-56

Trusting in God’s extraordinary love, let us come near to the Holy One in prayer.

Arise, O God, and sustain your church. We pray for all who dedicate their lives to serving your people. Renew our commitment to our siblings in faith around the globe, and bless the work of our ecumenical and interfaith partners (especially). God in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Arise, O God, and sustain your creation. We pray for all places affected by natural disasters. Transform the devastation of floods and fires into fertile ground for new life and growth. Fill heaven and earth with your life-giving Spirit. God in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Arise, O God, and sustain the nations. We pray for all elected officials. Kindle in them a desire to administer your justice. Strengthen their resolve to defend those who are vulnerable and to stand publicly against all forms of oppression. God in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Arise, O God, and sustain this assembly.  We pray for people harmed by racist discrimination, ableist discrimination, and all people discriminated against based on their gender identity or sexual orientation. Rescue us from all systems that degrade our fellow human beings. God in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Arise, O God, and sustain this assembly. We pray for this community, as we eagerly anticipate the arrival of our newly called Pastor Jen Collins, and as we celebrate with those who rejoice and weep with those who weep. We especially remember the Branch Family and grieve with them the sudden passing of their son and brother; Claudia Runnels, recovering from surgery; Carolyn Campbell, recovering from hip surgery; Sharon Peterson, recovering from a hospitalization; Mike Murray, in cancer treatment; Mary Sue Barber, daughter of Shelby Andress, whose cancer is in remission; and Donna von Fischer, mother-in-law of Pastor Peter, recovering from a broken hip. We pray for all who are suffering from long COVID, and other effects of the pandemic and for caregivers everywhere in their care for the sick. We pray for the mental health of our children who need special care. In our joy and in our tears, be near us. God in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, we remember the saints who have gone before us. May we run with perseverance the race set before us until we find our rest in you. God in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Receive the prayers of your children, merciful God, and hold us forever in your steadfast love; through Jesus Christ, our holy Wisdom.

Amen.

Genesis 15:1-6
Psalm 33:12-22
Hebrews 11:1-3, 8-16

Gospel Reading:

Luke 12:32-40
Trusting in God’s extravagant love, let us come near to the Holy One in prayer.

Let your lovingkindness be upon your church. Fill all who proclaim the gospel with your Spirit. Equip your flock to speak your word of promise and hope in the midst of fear and uncertainty. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Let your lovingkindness be upon your creation. Dwell among us and sustain our earthly home. In places of famine, provide nourishment. In places of plenty, fashion us to be good stewards of your bounty. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Let your lovingkindness be upon your world. Be our helper and our shield in places torn by strife and violence (especially). Raise up courageous leaders to govern with compassion and justice. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Let your lovingkindness be upon your children. Look upon all who wait for your steadfast love. Console those who grieve and embrace those who cry out to you especially The Torrence Family, grieving the death of their beloved RayAndre; Carolyn Campbell, recovering from hip surgery; Sharon Peterson, recovering from a hospitalization; Mike Murray, in cancer treatment; Claudia Runnels, recovering from surgery; Mary Sue Barber, daughter of Shelby Andress, whose cancer is in remission; Donna von Fischer, mother-in-law of Pastor Peter, recovering from a broken hip. We pray for all who are suffering from long COVID, and other effects of the pandemic and for caregivers everywhere in their care for the sick. We pray for the mental health of our children who need special care. Help us to trust your promise and not be afraid. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Let your lovingkindness be upon this community. Fashion our hearts to strive for the way of peace. Strengthen the outreach ministries of this congregation and all who care for those in need. Prepare us to provide a loving and hospitable welcome to Pastor Jen Collins, and surround her with our prayers of anticipatory joy and celebration as she prepares to lead us. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

With thanksgiving we remember all who have died in faith and now rest in you. As they placed their hope in you, so strengthen us to trust in your promise of new life. Lord, in your mercy, hear our prayer.

Receive the prayers of your children, merciful God, and hold us forever in your steadfast love; through Jesus Christ, our holy Wisdom. Amen.
