Pastor Jen Collins has been called to be Senior Pastor of Redeemer!  The congregation voted to call her last Sunday with a unanimous vote of all who were present and she has accepted. Her start date is yet to be determined, but we couldn't wait to share the news! You can view the call meeting from last Sunday and see the presentation the call committee put together that includes a video of her preaching by clicking this link. We look forward to this new chapter of Redeemer's witness as a "beacon of hope" in North Minneapolis!

Pastor Peter’s Last Sunday leading worship at Redeemer will be June 26th. We will have guest preachers and worship leaders in the month of July.  He will remain available for funerals and pastoral emergencies until Pastor Jen arrives. Call the church office for his contact information if you need it.
 
Seasonal Work Opportunity // Do you have a heart for serving Senior Citizens in North Minneapolis? Senior Community Services, a nonprofit, needs people like you to mow lawns this summer. If you are 16 or older, have your own lawn mower and transportation you are eligible. You manage your own schedule and number of clients. Pay is $18 per hour. Our Summer Cookouts are BACK! // Come June 15th as we start off this summer with our first of many cookouts. Join us for food, community, and North Minneapolis vibrancy. We will be working with some of our partner churches to make this possible. We would love to see familiar and new faces. This year’s dates are Wednesdays, June 15 and 29, July 13 and 27, Tuesday August 2 (National Night Out), and Wednesday, August 17. Summer Family Camp Retreat - July 29-31, 2022 at Luther Park // Registration is open for Redeemer's first ever Family Camp Retreat, a time for children, youth, and families to build relationships, be in nature, and grow in faith together. Luther Park is in Danbury, Wisconsin; it’s located by a lake with lots of opportunities to be by the water and play games, crafts, campfires, and explore family spiritual practices! There's a cost per person for the retreat that ranges based on the housing and age; scholarships are available to make it accessible to everyone.

FINANCIAL UPDATE:  We thank you for the wonderful response to the cash flow issues we experienced in the past few weeks. The Redeemer community is indeed generous! To continue to be in the best financial position possible as we call a new pastor, the council asks that you prayerfully consider whether you are able to make an extra offering towards Redeemer, or give several months of your regular offerings to Redeemer at this time. Temporary Church Treasurer Needed // Our current church treasurer, Kristin Gilbert, will be going on maternity leave this summer and we will need someone to take over the treasurer duties from this June through January of next year. The church treasurer is a part of our executive committee and council, and works with the bookkeeper to prepare financial reports for the council and congregation. Please contact Kristin (gilbert.kristink@gmail.com) or Mike Tarras, council president (mtarras@gmail.com) for more information about the role or if you have recommendations/nominations for this temporary role.​

LVC Service-Year Volunteer Application Open Now! Do you know someone - maybe even yourself! - who would be a great Lutheran Volunteer Corps (LVC) Volunteer? Help spread the word! The LVC Volunteer application is open now for anyone 21+ who's interested in spending a year serving at a social justice non-profit while exploring social justice, intentional community, spirituality, and living simply & sustainably. The next service-year begins in August and we'd love to help connect you and those you know to the many wonderful service positions available in all LVC cities. Here in the Twin Cities, placements include Restorative Justice Community Action, The Advocates for Human Rights, Ace in the City, Athletes Committed to Educating Students (ACES), createMPLS, Daily Work, Minneapolis Area Synod, & the Camden Promise! Go Fund Me for Sharon Peterson’s House // Sharon Peterson is a long-time resident of the Harrison Neighborhood in North Minneapolis. Recently, her home was condemned by the City of Minneapolis due to plumbing issues which created a hazardous living situation. As a result, she has had to vacate her home until it can be removed from condemnation status. Sharon has always stepped up to help her friends and neighbors; now it’s our turn to step up and help her. We're asking for financial donations to cover the cost of the repairs so that Sharon can get her house out of condemnation and avoid it falling into the hands of developers. Redeemer Center for Life is searching for a new executive director! Updating Contact Information on Breeze // We are currently working on updating all of the contact information we have for folks at RLC. Lector’s Needed for Worship // Now that we are having worship indoors, we are looking for volunteers to be a lector at our services. You can sign up through our SignUp Genius HERE. Please reach out to Savannah in the main office with any questions. admin@redeemermpls.org

Redeemer Giving App // Redeemer now has an online Giving app! In the Google Playstore or Apple App Store, you can search Vanco Mobile, download it, and follow these simple steps to set up your easy and efficient online giving with Redeemer straight from your Smartphone. You can also give through our website.

CHURCH OFFICE HOURS // Savannah is usually in the office Monday - Friday from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm, except when otherwise announced. The office is closed on holidays.  Pastor Peter will be in the church offices on Wednesdays from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm and Fridays from 10:00am - 1:00 pm. If you need to stop by the church at any other time during the week, let Pastor Peter know by calling 612-900-8410 and he can make arrangements to meet.

Prayer Concerns // If you, or anyone you know, has prayer concerns/requests, please contact Savannah in the main office at admin@redeemermpls.org , or Pastor Peter at pastorpeter@redeemermpls.org . We will put your prayer requests in the service.

BREEZE ONLINE DIRECTORY SMARTPHONE APP // Good news! Our church management software program, Breeze, is available as a smartphone app, making searching for other members and congregants easier than ever on your mobile devices. Search for the Breeze ChMS app in your device’s app store. When you log in the first time, it will ask for your congregation’s subdomain/ID, which is redeemermpls. Then you can use your same username and password to log in and find each other. If you have questions or need a Breeze login, email Savannah and she’ll send you one!

COVID-19 DELTA VARIANT & VACCINATIONS // We encourage everyone to get your COVID-19 vaccinations/boosters if you haven't already! They are free and available to all people aged 5 and older. As we gather, we will continue to practice social distancing and mask-wearing to protect the unvaccinated and the most vulnerable among us who cannot be vaccinated yet.

Paperless Newsletter for June // This month we will not be sending out the newsletter by mail to every member. If you want a newsletter mailed to you, please contact Savannah at admin@redeemermpls.org. We will have printed copies available in the entryway of the sanctuary that you can pick up. 

Call Meeting June 12th // On Sunday May 22, the call committee presented to the church council a candidate for the position of Sr. Pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church. The council unanimously voted to recommend the candidate for a congregational vote. This is the official announcement of a congregational meeting to vote on the call of this candidate to be held following worship on Sunday June 12 at approximately 11:45 am in the Fellowship Hall of the church.  You can join virtually via Zoom through this link. The call committee and the council both recommend this candidate with great enthusiasm. Details of the biography and ministry experience of the candidate will be presented at the congregational meeting on June 12. We look forward to seeing you on June 12 afer worship to prayerfully consider calling this pastoral candidate to lead Redeemer into the hopeful and exciting future God is preparing for us.

Going Away Party for Sharon Peterson // Tuesday, June 7, 2022 there will be a going away party for Sharon Peterson from 1:00 - 4:00 p.m. in the backyard of Redeemer Lutheran Church 1800 Glenwood Avenue Minneapolis Minnesota.  Cake and lemonade will be served.  Come and say goodbye! Sharon will be flying from Minneapolis to Denver on June 8, 2022.

Hope in Action:Life in Abundance for All // As we welcome another beautiful Minnesota summer, we also welcome our friend the Rev. Dr. Mitri Raheb, to the Twin Cities June 4-5. Mitri travels here from Bethlehem to engage broad communities of faith, social justice, the arts as creative resistance, and higher education as a pathway to a better future for young people.  As both the co-founder of Bright Stars of Bethlehem and the President of Dar al-Kalima University of Arts & Culture, he is eager to tell the story of hope! Bright Stars of Bethlehem is about creating hope in Palestine.  With your help, the programs offered through Dar al-Kalima University of Arts & Culture in Bethlehem support and provide hope to college students, children and youth, families, and older seniors. Please see the attached flyer that features five events that will bring together people across Minnesota to learn more about the creative young people in Palestine who strive to make positive change in their world and hope to see peace one day – despite the daily struggles of life under Israeli military occupation.
