Together we mourn the loss of beloved Redeemer and Harrison community member, Kirk Washington Jr. Kirk died in a car accident on Monday night on I-94. At this time, we ask for prayers of support for Aster, Azlalea and Keah and other family members. Redeemer has been well represented in the care and attention of the family. Plans for a service are still being made, although it looks like at this time the service will likely not be held at Redeemer. Once a service has been decided, we will announce the service through the announcements and on social media. JoAnn Rice JoAnn Rice died last week while on the flight back to Minneapolis from Mazatland, Mexico. Jerry Johnson shared that JoAnn had done well with the flight and leaned over to take a nap. It was when they were landing that he tried to wake her and discovered that she had passed away. There will be a memorial service at Redeemer Lutheran Church on April 16th at 2:00p.m. A reception will follow. Please keep Jerry Johnson and JoAnn’s family in your prayers. Ordination Announcement Congratulations to John and Anna Schwehn. John has been called to serve as a pastor at Christ the King in New Brighten. The service of ordination is going to be on Saturday, April 9. Harrison, Healing, Harmony. H-cubed is an open-mic event that will be held at Venture North Bike Shop at 6:00p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2016. Come join a fun, family-friendly open mic community space where we will share art, poetry, music, and conversation around systemic issues impacting the Harrison Neighborhood in North Minneapolis. The topic of this month's gathering will be "Can I Live? An Earth Day Celebration" and we will engage in discussion prompts around what liberation means to you. Food and refreshments will be provided. Help Prepare the Redeemer Urban Garden & Community Bread Oven
Get ready for community gatherings this spring at Redeemer by participating in these fun, DIY activities. This weekend, a group of volunteers will be building wood storage and a prep counter for the Community Bread Oven. Volunteers and community gardeners will also be pulling weeds and turning over beds to get the community garden ready for planting. No construction or gardening experience necessary. Pizza will be made available to volunteers. Please come any time between 11am-3pm Saturday, April 2, 2016 and/or 1pm-5pm Sunday, April 3, 2016! We'd love to see you there! Holy Hoops Tournament Join us at Augsburg College for the Holy Hoops Tournament on Sunday, April 3! The tournament will be at 12:00-5:15pm. There will also be a 3-point competition with a $3 entry! Admission to the tournament is FREE! Join in the fun and support the TWO Redeemer basketball teams! We mourned the recent death of our beloved Joann Rice. Joann and Jerry were on their return flight from wintering in Mazatland, Mexico when Joann passed away. Please keep Jerry and Joann’s family in your prayers. Our prayers are with Kiara, Andrew and Olia Jorgensen in our prayers, as they are going through a high risk pregnancy. The Jorgensen purchased a home and are living in West St Paul. Continue to pray for the family of Jamar Clark and our North Minneapolis community. Next week Redeemer's Black Lives Matter group will meet with representatives from the Minneapolis police administration. A topic of the conversation will be violence de-escalation. The meeting invitation is extended to participants in Redeemer's Black Lives Matters Coalition. Congratulations to John and Anna Schwehn.
