HOLY WEEK with REDEEMER + THE NORTHSIDE PARISH // We will share virtual Holy Week worship of Maundy/Holy Thursday and Good Friday with Christ River of Life and Salem Lutheran congregations. We give thanks for this blessed partnership in the gospel of Christ. Maundy Thursday Holy Communion will be provided at 12pm noon in drive-through fashion in the parking lot behind Milda’s Cafe.

REMEMBERING GEORGE FLOYD throughout the CHAUVIN TRIAL // You’re invited to join Amy Koopman on Zoom each weekday morning at 9am throughout the trial for 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence, stillness, prayer, and meditation as we remember George Floyd and yearn for Justice, or light a candle in your own home, on your own. If you’re an earlier riser, you may join the Center for Leadership and Neighborhood Engagement (CLNE) for their Virtual Healing Tent at 8am each morning via zoom for a daily reflection followed by silent prayer. You may access this prayer experience via Zoom or as a livestream on the Healing Our City Facebook page. It will also be available as a recording on their Facebook page.

Please register online or email Amy to sign up to record yourself and/or your family speaking the assigned lectionary readings for our prerecorded worships during the months of January and February. Know that you can speak aloud the readings linked on the sign-up or from a children’s or other translation in your home.

COVID-19 PREVENTION & VACCINES // The best protection from the various mutations of the COVID-19 virus—whether you are vaccinated or not—is to:
-- stay home whenever possible;
-- stay 6 feet away from others in all spaces;
-- wear a mask (or two) so that there is adequate filtration and a snug fit over the bridge of your nose, cheeks, and chin; and
-- wash your hands often and well.
See the MN Department of Health COVID-19 site for more in-depth and current information about symptoms, testing, and vaccines. At this time, in MN, vaccines are being given to long-term care residents and staff, healthcare workers, K-12 teachers, child care workers, and people over 65. Palm Sunday | Readings & Gospel:
John 12:12-16, Psalm 31:9-16, Philippians 2:5-11, Mark 15:1-47
Relying on the promises of God, we pray boldly for the church, the world, and all in need--

In Jesus you came among us as a suffering servant. Redeem, humble, and heal us as your people from pride and the certainty that we always know your will for we are only empowered to confess Christ crucified. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

In creation, redeem life springing from death. Create new possibilities for lost habitats and endangered species in areas affected by climate change Texas, . . . grant relief from natural disasters in Australia, Japan, Sudan, . . .  and nurture new growth. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Jesus was handed over to the powers of this world. In all nations, instruct the powerful, that they would not exploit their power but maintain justice. Sustain soldiers, and guide those who command them, that they serve those in greatest need. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Welcome into our Lord’s family of redeeming faith Pastor Randall and Mrs Diana Romsdahl with their lifelong friend Nyater Chen and all newly born: Eka to Rachel and Derwin; Leora to Linnae and Jamie; Remi to Alyssa and Elizabeth and Riley to Lindsay and Steven. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

On the cross Jesus joined all who feel forsaken. Abide with those who are condemned to death. Defend those who are falsely accused. Console and strengthen those who are mocked or bullied. Accompany all who suffer  Dennis, Ione, Mary, and Sarah living in residential care, our local and global siblings, the vaccinated and unvaccinated, all living with surging and variant COVID-19 with accompanying lockdowns alongside of quarantines in Brazil, Chile, Germany, Japan, U.K . . . , for all emergency responders, transporters, security guards, as well as disaster volunteers, the displaced and unsheltered campers at 2nd Ave North and Van White Memorial Blvd, brothers James and Bobbie, Cindy, Linda, Maggie, Mike M.,  Samantha, William . . .  grant all respite and renewal. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

We entrust ourselves and all our prayers to you, O faithful God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Fifth Sunday in Lent | Readings & Gospel:
 Jeremiah 31:31-34 | Psalm 51:1-12 | Hebrews 5:5-10 | John 12:20-33
prayers from All Creation Sings, pp. 62-62

Within the whole human family, people of color have experienced both interpersonal aggression and structural oppression instead of abundant life. We recognize and lament the harm racism has caused to African Descent communities; American Indian and Alaska Native communities; Indigenous Peoples within Canada; Arab and Middle Eastern communities; Asian and Pacific Islander communities; and Latinx communities. We cry out to you, hear our lament, O God.

We have assigned the notion of race to human beings created in God’s own divine image. We have judged God’s beautiful diversity by our flawed and artificial standards. We cry out to you, hear our lament, O God.

We have used language and images in ways that equate black and dark with dirt and sin, and that fail to welcome the treasures of darkness in God’s good creation. We cry out to you,
hear our lament, O God.

We have accepted practices in our churches and in our society that privilege whiteness over diversity and equity. We have been complicit in how racism continues to exclude and harm people of color. We cry out to you, hear our lament, O God.

When one part of the body of Christ hurts, the whole body hurts. As we listen to people who are harmed by racism, we call to you, open our hearts, O God.

As we reflect on our daily interactions with people and communities of color, we call to you,
open our hearts, O God.

As we reconsider what we have been taught about race and racism, we call to you, open our hearts, O God.

As we contemplate what we have done and what we have left undone, we call to you,
open our hearts, O God.

As we labor to create a loving and safe community for our siblings of color, we call to you, open our hearts, O God.

Holy and merciful God, as your people we recommit ourselves to loving one another as you have loved us. Prepare us for this time of listening and discovery. We pray in the name of the one who has made us one, Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

REMEMBERING GEORGE FLOYD throughout the CHAUVIN TRIAL // As a city and nation, Minneapolis is once again in the global spotlight as the trial of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis Police Department officer charged with murdering George Floyd. For many of us, the trial brings back the trauma of last summer. For others there is concern for safety and security. Still others might simply be confused by events related to the trial as they unfold. In addition to the synod staff periodically offering information and opportunities for reflection, Amy Koopman (who is currently completing her Clinical Pastoral Education through Social Justice Chaplaincy with Redeemer and Omegon residential treatment) will open Zoom each weekday morning at 9am throughout the trial for 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence, stillness, prayer, and meditation as we remember George Floyd and yearn for Justice. You are invited to join her each morning, or light a candle in your own home, on your own. If you’re an earlier riser, you may join the Center for Leadership and Neighborhood Engagement (CLNE) for their Virtual Healing Tent at 8am each morning via zoom for a daily reflection followed by silence prayer. This virtual prayer tent will continue daily throughout the course of the trial. You may access this prayer experience via Zoom or as a livestream on our Healing Our City Facebook page. It will also be available as a recording on our Facebook page.

You sent your Son that the world might be saved through him. Inspire the witness of the church throughout the world. Empower missionaries, Bible translators, and ministries of service in your name. Give Minneapolis life in places where death seems triumphant; give healing to the sick and comfort to those who mourn Itasca, Kogo Nora, with Dennis, Ione, Mary, and Sarah living in residential care, our local and global siblings, Belarus, Czechoslovakia, Ethiopia, Lebanon, Myanmar Yemen, and the Church in the Holy Land the vaccinated and unvaccinated in Italy and Vietnam, all living with surging and variant COVID-19 with accompanying lockdowns alongside of quarantines, for all emergency responders, transporters, security guards, as well as disaster volunteers, the unsheltered campers at 2nd Ave North and Van White Memorial Blvd, brothers James and Bobbie, Cindy, Linda, Jovita, Maggie, Samantha, William . . .. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

By grace we have been saved. Fill Redeemer with that saving grace for showing  mercy to all.  Give us patience  when the way seems long for calling our next pastor. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

Your Son was lifted up that whoever believes might have eternal life. We praise you for all who have died in Christ William “Lefty” Bell, Agui Elicki, Josh. Bring us with all the saints into the fullness of your promises. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.

We entrust ourselves and all our prayers to you, O faithful God, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

REMEMBERING GEORGE FLOYD as the CHAUVIN TRIAL BEGINS // As a city and nation, we anticipate that Minneapolis will once again be in the global spotlight as the trial of Derek Chauvin, the Minneapolis Police Department officer charged with murdering George Floyd, begins on Monday.
For many of us, the trial will bring back the trauma of last summer. For others there will be concern for safety and security. Still others might simply be confused by events related to the trial as they unfold. Congregational leaders in several synod churches have already planned events and responses for the coming weeks. The synod staff will periodically offer information about some of these events, as well as convene opportunities for rostered leaders to reflect on what it means to be leading a community of faith during a time and place such as this.
Additionally, Amy Koopman (who is currently completing her Clinical Pastoral Education through Social Justice Chaplaincy with Redeemer) will open Zoom each weekday morning at 9am throughout the trial for 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence, stillness, prayer, and meditation as we remember George Floyd and yearn for justice. You are invited to join her each morning, and/or light a candle in your own home on your time as you’re able. If you're in need or want of presence, prayer, or space for grief and processing throughout this trial, you may reach out to Amy at admin@redeemermpls.org or akoopman001@luthersem.edu or by text at 615-708-9973. (Zoom dial in: (312) 626-6799 | Meeting ID: 840 5626 5293 | Passcode: 795012)

GEORGE FLOYD EVENTS // Here are more opportunities to engage in on Monday at George Floyd Square (38th & Chicago, South Mpls):
Call to Prayer will begin at 8:00 a.m. Bells will be rung for one minute; then 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence will honor George Floyd's life; this will be followed by one additional minute of bell ringing. (Congregations and individuals are invited to ring bells at this time as a commemoration of this memorial.)
Mutual Aid Supplies Drive will be held 8:15-11:30 a.m. Following this drive, George Floyd Square will become a Black-only space through 2:00 p.m. Under the theme "Black Kings United: Change Starts with Us," participants in this time will pledge unity and community protection.
Open Mic event for youth to elders will follow at 2:00 p.m. A candlelight vigil will begin at 5:45 p.m., and will go until the event ends at 7:00 p.m

If interested please contact Service & Advocacy Minister Holly De Souza at desouzaholly3@gmail.com

DAYLIGHT SAVINGS //  Daylight Savings Time begins at 2am on Sunday, March 14th. Sometimes referred to as spring forward, remember to turn your clocks forward one hour if yours don’t automatically change!

LENT ON THE NORTHSIDE // Our Northside Parish sibling congregation, Christ the River of Life, will be hosting at 12 noon a short hybrid Holden Evening Prayer worship each Wednesday in Lent. Those who come in person with masks and distancing may enjoy a soup supper, while others may join via this zoom link.

NEXT WEEK AT WORSHIP we will host Word and Prayer with Baptismal Creed and Prayers of Intercession. (Pre-recorded worship will be available online by Friday at 10pm so you may view anytime over the weekend!)

MINNEAPOLIS AREA TOOLKIT NEXT WEEKEND // Register for the MInneapolis Area Synod Toolkit Saturday, March 13th from 9am-12pm! Join colleagues in ministry for a Zoom morning of learning and connection! Choose two out of 15 workshop offerings to get practical tips to bring back to your congregation. Since there are so many workshops, we encourage churches to send a group so people can split up among the many great options. This is an especially helpful event for new church council members--Ask VP Mike Tarras about his attending! Workshops will be recorded and available to those who pre-register.

DAILY PRAYER MEDITATIONS areprovided by Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, World Hunger ministry in the February Bulletin and online.
