REDEEMER

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Announcements: September 30th

9/30/2016

Redeemer Women's Retreat!
Women of Redeemer, please mark your calendar for the Women's Retreat happening on November 4th-6th.  The retreat is open to all women, even if you've only been to Redeemer once!  More details are coming soon!

RAP is beginning!
"RAP (Redeemer After School Program) is beginning soon!  RAP (Redeemer After School Program) is a program of Redeemer Center for Life that hopes to provide a safe place of belonging for children in first through eighth grade.  Programming includes academic enrichment, activity time and a free meal.  We are seeking volunteers to provide attention, care and support to children on Mondays and Wednesdays!  Volunteers can either help with enrichment programming or assist in the kitchen.  If you are interested in volunteering, please ready to commit, please attend the training on Wednesday, October 5th from 4:00-6:00pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church.  RSVP by emailing khadejia@redeemermpls.org.  If you can’t attend the training but are interested in more information, please email khadejia@redeemermpls.org to let her know!

Teen Cafe Begins this Tuesday!
Teen Café is a ministry of Redeemer Lutheran Church and Mt. Olivet Lutheran Church.  Teen Café will meet once a month on the first Tuesday of each month to connect with other youth across the city, do fun things together and talk about faith.  If you know a youth in grades 8th to 12th grade, invite them to join us THIS Tuesday at Venture North at 6:30-8:00 for our first gathering.  Transportation to each month’s events will be available for youth who live in North Minneapolis.  Contact Pastoral Intern Alissa at vicar@redeemermpls.org for more information and for a commitment form!

Are you interested in learning more about Muslim Identities in Minnesota?
Join us at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 in the Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center, Augsburg College

In the 21st century there is a plethora of clichés, stereotypes, and over-generalizations about Muslims in Minnesota, where there are also a variety of different ways of being Muslim. Join Professor Cawo Abdi and Ph.D. candidate Nahid Khan to explore the diversity of Muslims in Minnesota today and the many contexts shaping their lives and identities. Professor Abdi will draw on her recently published book on the Somali diaspora, Elusive Jannah, and Khan will present data from her research on the portrayal of Islam and Muslims in Twin Cities media over the last several decades.
The event is free and open to the public.
Sponsored by the Bernhard Christensen Center for Vocation at Augsburg College in collaboration with the Jay Phillips Center for Interfaith Learning at the University of St. Thomas. For more information, please see http://www.augsburg.edu/ccv/2016/08/26/muslim-identities-in-minnesota/

Bryn Mawr Backpacks.
Last year, we started a partnership with the Sheridan Story program at Bryn Mawr Elementary School, packing backpacks with food on Fridays for children to take home for the weekend. This program has grown in the last year to serve 112 families. It has been an extremely beneficial partnership that takes place every Friday. They are in need of more volunteers this school year. If you would like to participate or learn more, please contact Pastor Kelly or the church office (612)374-4139.
