REDEEMER

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Announcements: Feb. 28, 2016

2/26/2016

Redeemer Holy Hoops team will play on Sunday, February 28th at Christ the King Lutheran in New Brighton, MN. One team will play at 12:30p.m. with the other team playing at 3:00p.m.
Huge thank you to everyone who was able to come out and support the teams last weekend, we hope you are able to come out again this Sunday!

On Sunday, February 28th, Pacific Lutheran University Alumni will be hosting a screening of “Nambia Nine” in the Redeemer fellowship hall at 4:00p.m. Community members are invited to join in the screening and discussion.
Synopsis of the film: Edwin Tjiramba was a young man when he left Namibia, still in the aftermath of apartheid, for an education in the United States. Under illegal apartheid rule, Black Namibians were barred from higher education, so when he suddenly found himself with the opportunity to study abroad at Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA in the early 1990's - he took it. “I was born in Namibia,” Tiramba said, “but my future was born at PLU.”
Almost twenty years later, he is graduating with a law degree from the University of Namibia.Having knowledge of law is important to ensure illegal rule never happens again in his country, and that young Namibian leaders have better opportunities than were available to them 30 years ago. His cohort are now working in all sectors, from forensics to foreign relations, changing the world for the better. It is a story about the power of education, and the agency of those who use it for good.

Join us for Lenten soup and service on Wednesday nights throughout the Lenten season. Community members provide soup at 6:00p.m.  We are still looking for volunteers to bring soup; there is a sign up sheet in the fellowship hall. The service begins at 7:00p.m., which includes Holden evening prayer and a community discussion of racism/oppression.
