Centennial Celebration News
Our Centennial Celebration is ongoing! June 6, 2009 marked 100 years of rich and dynamic ministry for the Redeemer congretation. And so, in June 2009 we began a celebration that will carry us through one full year of celebrating all this is, was, and will be Redeemer. We continue to celebrate through June 2010.
To mark the beginning of this 100th year we hosted a Centennial Celebration and Reception complete with artifacts old and new.... In addition to a celebration with Redeemer family and friends, we took this same moment in time to kick off Redeemer's Capital Campaign, Redeemer's Sacred Canopy. To follow, in September we celebrated with a Togolese and Ugandan meal - Raise the Roof with Harriet and Mama Philo - a fundraiser for Redeemer's Campaign. October brought to us the annual two-day WELCA (Women of the ELCA) Bazaar complete with bake sale, handy craft sale, country store, and raffle. October is also the month of our annual (and acclaimed) Soul Food Dinner! On November 22nd we celebrated the beginning of the Christmas season with a soulful and spirit-led concert of choral and instrumental music. Early December was host to the WELCA Winter Luncheon featuring Baskets for Bouchi - a silent auction to benefit our sister congregation in Bouchi Nigeria. December 12th was this year's date for the Redeemer Christmas Store - a spectacular opportunity for neighborhood youth to purchase affordable Christmas gifts for family members. The 20th was the Sunday School Christmas Program - an event that told the age-old story in a new andn vibrant way. In January we honored and celebrated the life, work, and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a dynamic afternoon of music, song, and spoken word. In early April we came together as Redeemer famiy and friends in honor of this holy Passover week and coming Easter... followed by the annual WELCA Spring Luncheon, April 17.
