Grace and Peace to you! This week's note is about sharing updates happening in our community. 1) Building Partners. We had Literacy MN in our building for the last couple of years. I am pleased to announce that they have moved to a NEW location, read press release. This is an exciting part of their journey. I am glad we welcomed Literacy MN into our building to run their Open Door program. We will be retaining and transferring the ownership over of the building security system, we also will be adjusting our budget as well with a decrease in building rent being received. We welcome Youth Farm after school youth cooking class into our building on Thursday afternoons beginning in October/ November. Please say hello to Marcus Kar and Chef Monica when you see them around.  With this change it means we have opportunity to reimagine our space and how best we can steward our building for the community.  If you have any connections, interests or would like to help organize around shared community space please connect with Pastor Jen and council. 2) Redeemer Center for Life. We give thanks for the time in which Leon Dixon served at RCFL February- August 2023. It is unfortunate that his time has ended with the organization so soon. The organization is in process of addressing concerns for tenants, there is some plumbing, window repair, deep cleaning, security needs to be tended to in the 16-plex. We are beginning to meet monthly with tenants of both buildings to build relationships and be able to help address concerns. If you want to sponsor a breakfast or donate to cover the maintenance costs for our RCFL neighbors let Pastor Jen, Sara Huelle, Holly DeSouza or Rufus Campbell know, as your Redeemer Representatives. RCFL's office is also moving back into the church building. If people can help Tyrone move items over to Redeemer (Sunday Oct. 15 + Monday, October 16) it would be appreciated. With the changes in staffing in the interim, Aster Nebro will be interim volunteer bookkeeper and Pastor Jen will volunteer hours to cover minimal office hours for our tenants on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If you are interested in helping please reach out.        3) Coffee Time after worship + Community Meals As an effort to answer a need for more communication I'd like to suggest gathering more, investing in getting together to talk with one another. It could be really good for us to keep voicing our questions, curiosities, dreams and hopes. In this community, you all have the ability to create beautiful things. I imagine if we can keep opening ourselves up to sit in brave space, then armor we use to protect ourselves will be able to come off and we can be free to be us. We must stop armoring up with fear, perfectionism, anxiety, feelings of insignificance, grief, white supremacy). We can work together to understand and dismantle piece by piece this armor and be vulnerable enough to heal. In knowing one another more, trusting, respecting, honoring our differences, we can be a beacon letting one another shine their brightest.  Peace & Blessings,  Pastor Jen Collins (she/her) INDIGENOUS PEOPLE'S DAY WORSHIP Sunday, October 8 at 10:30 am During our worship time we will recognize, honor, and celebrate Indigenous People and continue re-framing the narrative of American History as we once knew it.  CONGRATULATIONS & ORDINATION CELEBRATIONS Ordination, Sunday, October 8 at 5:00 pm with reception to follow We would like to congratulate Amy Koopman, Redeemer's Interim Office Administrator on accepting her first call as Associate Pastor at Gethsemane Lutheran in Hopkins, MN. We are so grateful for all the commitment, passion, gifts and talents shared with the Redeemer community over the years. We give thanks and send Amy, Paul and Eli with love. Redeemer will host, as we are Amy's home congregation. Contact Pastor Jen to volunteer to help coordinate the reception and/or serve as hospitality.   Ordination Volunteering BIBLE RESOURCES ANY AGE Again, congratulations to all who received a bible on Sunday or Wednesday. We hope that you explore and try out new ways to get to know God through stories, songs, prayer and conversation! Pastor Jen has some resources for you:  Augsburg Fortress, under 1517 Media publisher has a large selection of Bibles and books to engage with. Check out the selection. Maybe you'll want to start a small book group yourself!  Bible Tabs for your Bibles - don't worry about not having every book memorized. There are 66 of them! Here is a simple tool that can help navigate the different books of the Bible with ease.  Bible Guide and Journal Are you able to sponsor a bible? Average cost is $20-25. COMMUNITY BOOK READS  Beginning October thru End of year Learning is an important part of our journey, we have the opportunity to immerse ourselves through their voices and experiences in the stories they share. We also acknowledge we hope that connecting through relationships, conversations will move us into next steps toward action. These specific books are meant to be an inspiring, a place for reflection, awareness and motivation to strive to do more with what you will have experienced. This opportunity will fund and continue to support Redeemer's mission to be a Beacon of Hope for the Harrison Neighborhood, N. Mpls and beyond. We will offer monthly meals, beginning September 20th, 6:00-8:00 pm. Sign up to volunteer to prep, serve and be a community host (greet and connect people). Monthly Meal Volunteering COMMUNITY HEALTH UPDATE: Reminders as we seek to care for the most vulnerable in our communities. The new Covid variant is circulating and appears to be more infectious (but not more serious) than those previous (like influenza which changes each year and needs a new vaccine). The symptoms are the same and may appear within a couple of days from the time of exposure. However, it can take up to 10 days to show up. The other difference is that the Covid antigen (over the counter) tests may not turn positive for a few days even in those that are symptomatic. If you get Covid, ask your provider about Paxlovid which reduces the severity and length of illness and risk for long Covid.   For our community well-being: To minimize your risk of infection, use masks around those with Covid (cold) symptoms.  To minimize spreading Covid to others, mask in public for 10 days after an unprotected/unmasked exposure to Covid - since Covid is transmissible up to 2 days before you have symptoms or a positive test.  If you get Covid:  isolate at home until symptoms are improving, are without fever (off medications that bring fever down) and test negative for Covid.  mask in public until 10 days from the onset of symptoms or the positive Covid test (which ever is first - though the day count starts over for those asymptomatic with a positive test if they then develop symptoms) UPDATING BREEZE CHURCH DIRECTORY It has been awhile since we have updated our Breeze Church Directory, which means that we have a lot of out of date information!
